Lamine Yamal: Hansi Flick Opines That Barcelona Youngster Can Get Even Better, Tells Him to Stay Humble

Flick is hopeful about Lamine Yamal’s future, saying the young Barcelona talent is on a fantastic trajectory but needs to stay grounded. At just 17, Yamal has been a standout player for Spain and recently helped his country win the Euro 2024 contest this summer. The incoming Barcelona manager Flick also feels that there is more to come from the forward.

New Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has said that Lamine Yamal has immense potential and the player “can still improve. ” Yamal played brilliantly in the just-concluded European Championship where Spain won the title for the fourth time after beating England 2-1 in the final. It is quite amazing that in little over a year he has risen through the ranks to become an international football star.

However, it will be a new era at Camp Nou this season for Yamal particularly after the departure of manager Xavi. Former Bayern Munich coach Flick has taken charge and is ready to use the young player. “He has done a really great job in the last year; he has improved a lot,” Flick said. “What he did in the Euro is unbelievable.”

‘But great players sustain the performance, and now it is time for him to do it, too, so he needs to ground himself now.  I believe he is a great guy. I talked to him when I came in and now he is in this team. Of course, he provides us with exhilarating performances, But he can progress further and make things even better. He is on an incredibly excellent trajectory.’

Yamal, who joined the Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy when he was a kid, was a sensation at the start of his club career when he made his debut at the age of 15 during the last match of the season against Real Betis in April 2023 where the Catalan giants thrashed the Andalusian side 4-0.

From there, Yamal went from strength to strength, scoring a goal during the final of European Championships where La Roja defeated the host nation France 2-1. Flick expects the same kind of improvement in Yamal’s career and wants the club to clinch more silverware this season. Flick, 59, is no stranger to success having led Bayern Munich to a sextuple, he arrives in a club that did not win any trophy in 2023/24.

“What I want to see is that we are playing really good football, attacking football and that everybody can see that this team really fights a lot for this club,” Flick said. “I think this is important You can only win with the biggest clubs and that is why I am here I am not saying that I will win every title like that but if we try we can do it. ”
