Incoming England manager Thomas Tuchel has signaled a potential return for Arsenal defender Ben White to the national team. White, 27, last played for England at the 2022 FIFA World Cup but left the camp early for personal reasons. Tuchel, who begins his tenure officially on January 1, 2025, is keen to reconnect with White and offer him a fresh start with the Three Lions.
White’s last involvement with the national team came during Gareth Southgate’s tenure at the Qatar World Cup. Despite being a part of the squad, he did not feature in any of the group stage matches and left the camp early due to personal issues.
Ahead of UEFA Euro 2024, Southgate confirmed White was unavailable for selection, but Tuchel seems optimistic about re-integrating the Arsenal star.
Speaking at the 2026 World Cup qualifying draw in Zurich, Tuchel addressed White’s situation:
"I will reach out to him. It should be a clean start and a clear narrative. I will be in the stadiums from January to ensure the players know the boss is there."
White, a versatile defender, last represented England in March 2022, featuring in a 3-0 win over Ivory Coast. Since debuting in June 2021, he has earned four caps, all under Southgate.
Since joining Arsenal from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2021 for £50 million, White has evolved into a key figure for Mikel Arteta’s squad. Initially signed as a center-back, he transitioned to right-back, making 146 appearances for the Gunners and contributing significantly to their Premier League title aspirations.
Currently, White is sidelined with a knee injury that required surgery during the last international break, ruling him out for several months.
