Arsenal have completed the signing of the highly-rated Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna for £33 million. The 22-year-old centre-half was being eyed by many of the top Premier League clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester City after a great season in Serie A and a good performance in the Euro 2024 qualifiers. Calafiori was also instrumental in Bologna’s stellar season where they finished 5^th in the league – the team’s highest finish in the league since 1971 and appeared in 33 fixtures across all competitions. He has now trained with Arsenal first team in their pre-season tour in the USA and could feature in the match against Liverpool on Wednesday. His arrival strengthens an Arsenal team which has one of the best backline in the English Premier league that only conceded only 29 goals in 38 matches last season.
