The countdown for the 2024 Ballon d’Or has commenced, and the battle for the world’s best player is now on. Since Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are not qualified for the Ballon d’Or this year, the playing field is wide open. The current contenders are headed by Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. and Manchester City’s Rodri.
1. Vinicius Jr (Real Madrid)
Vinicius Jr. is the favorite to win the Ballon d’Or this year after an excellent 2023/24 season. He netted 24 goals, with one of them being the winner in Real Madrid’s UEFA Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund. Both these performances and the trophies he won have certainly placed him in the ranks of the best players in the world.
2. Rodri (Manchester City)
Rodri was instrumental in Manchester City’s Premier League triumph last season and was awarded the Player of the Tournament in Spain’s Euro 2024 success. Even though he has been injured for the past few games and will be out for the rest of the season after suffering an ACL injury against Arsenal, his contribution to both titles places him on the list as a strong contender for the Ballon d’Or.
3. Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid)
Bellingham’s transfer to Real Madrid has proved to be a great move for him. He netted 23 goals in his first season and received personal awards like UEFA Young Player of the Season. His reliability and performance places him in the list of the favorites for the award.
4. Kylian Mbappe (Real Madrid)
Mbappe has been effective for Real Madrid since his arrival, contributing to eight goals during the season. However, the injury, which set him back in the Euro 2024, has not taken away his reputation to be considered for the Ballon d’Or.
5. Manchester City’s Erling Haaland
Haaland, whose specialty is scoring goals continuously, has had another good season for Manchester City. Compared with the previous year his form is slightly down but he is still one of Europe’s leading strikers, and he is a strong contender for the Ballon d’Or.
