Bayern Munich Ultras Call for Boycott Over High Ticket Prices

The Bayern Munich Ultras have urged fans to boycott the team’s Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk scheduled for December 10th over what they term as exploitative ticket prices. Despite being an “away” match for Bayern, it will be played at Schalke 04’s Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, because Shakhtar continues to host home games in Germany because of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The most fanatical Bayern fans, the Südkurve München, are angered by the alleged €52 ticket price, which they deem far higher than in the previous away matches.

To put things into perspective, fans of Bayern Munich had to pay about half the price of this ticket for the away game against Atalanta on Matchday 2, which means the price hike is difficult to justify. On the same note, a group of Bayern’s active fan groups is calling on other fans to boycott the game in protesters. The Südkurve München released a statement, saying: “Do not allow yourself to be deceived and do not watch the away match at Shakhtar Donetsk. For fair pricing – against top game surcharges! They intend to convey a message against the ‘demand-responsive pricing strategy,’ which increases ticket prices during high demand or low supply. The pricing model adopted by Shakhtar is designed in a manner that discourages fans from attending high-profile matches and many are locked out.
