Borussia Dortmund has made a new signing which is 22-year-old full-back Yan Couto from Manchester City. Couto signed for Manchester City in 2020 from Coritiba FC, a Brazilian club for £5 million but the young man has never made any senior appearance for the Premier League champions. Instead, he played the last four seasons on loan, mainly in Spanish Girona, which is a part of the CFG. The Brazilian right-back has been instrumental to Girona FC’s third-place finish in La Liga last season which earned them a place in the UEFA Champions League. The 22-year-old defender played 95 matches for Girona during the loan spells and scored 5 goals with 17 assists. This attracted the attention of Borussia Dortmund who view him as a useful player to have in their team as they seek to better their performance of the last season in the Bundesliga. Couto expressed his excitement about joining Dortmund saying: ‘For me, it is a dream come true. ’ Borussia Dortmund is a special club. ’ Every child in Brazil knows how great this club is, knows the fans, and is fascinated by the Yellow Wall. ’ He added: ‘I am looking forward to wearing the BVB shirt for the first time and to feel the power and emotions in this great stadium. ’ The transfer to Dortmund also includes a conditional option to make the transfer permanent next summer if some sporting performances This clause presents the club’s optimism that Couto will be a game changer. The new manager for Dortmund is Nuri Sahin, who took the position after Edin Terzic who resigned after a 2-0 loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League final, the club has a desire to go higher and incorporate Couto into this team. The club’s supporters are expecting a lot from the Brazilian defender since he has been performing well in Spain. At the same time, Manchester City also carried out the personnel changes of the team. They have already generated about £60m from the sale of their players this summer the likes of Liam Delap, Tommy Doyle, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, and Sergio Gomez.
