A lot of hardness was observed in Arsenal as they were beaten by Bournemouth in 2-0 in the English Premier League. The Gunners were down to 10 men after William Saliba got a red card in the 30th minute following a VAR intervention, which was the match’s major incident. The Cherries dominated in the second half, and Ryan Christie and Justin Kluivert got on the score sheet for Bournemouth while Arsenal lost an opportunity to move to the top of the table.
The turning point of the match came when Saliba pulled down Evanilson, who was through on goal following a wayward back pass by Leandro Trossard. The Frenchman was given his marching orders and Arsenal had to play the remainder of the half an hour more with a man down. The Cherries dominated the final third of the pitch in the second half as they sought to take advantage of the numerical advantage, they had over the Scots, and Ryan Christie opened the scoring in the 70th minute after a superb corner kick.
A minute or two more and another error in the defense line – David Raya tripped Evanilson in the penalty area following a rather feeble back-pass by Jakub Kiwior. A penalty call was given, and Justin Kluivert took the ball and coolly placed the ball in the net and Bournemouth had a good 2-0 win.
This result stopped Arsenal’s unbeaten run in the Premier League for the season, remaining third, and on par with Manchester City but one point behind Liverpool. Bournemouth on the other hand moved to the 10th position, getting their first win against Arsenal in three years.
Arsenal created few clear-cut chances with Saka’s absence due to a hamstring injury that he sustained earlier. Their best chance came from Gabriel Martinelli after capitalizing on a loose pass by Kepa, but the shot by the Brazilian was wide of the mark. Arsenal’s night was further complicated by shaky handling from David Raya, who had to make several saves after failed crosses and defensive blunders.
The scoreline will provide plenty of thought for Mikel Arteta, with captain Martin Ødegaard still injured, and Saliba set to be suspended for next weekend’s match-up against Liverpool.
