Brentford 1-3 Arsenal: AFC Moves to Second with Comeback Win

Arsenal F.C. started the new year in style, coming from behind to secure a 3-1 victory over Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium. The result moves Mikel Arteta’s side up to second in the Premier League table, just six points behind leaders Liverpool.

First Half: Brentford Takes Early Lead

Brentford surprised Arsenal early on as Bryan Mbeumo continued his stellar form, scoring his 11th league goal of the season in the 13th minute. His sharp finish gave the Bees an unexpected advantage.

Arsenal, however, responded with resilience. Gabriel Jesus equalized in the 28th minute, heading home after Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken spilled Thomas Partey’s shot. The goal marked Jesus’ sixth strike in his last four appearances for the Gunners.

Second Half: Arsenal’s Dominance Seals Victory

Early in the second half, Arsenal’s set-piece expertise paid off as Mikel Merino found the net, completing a well-executed corner routine. Just three minutes later, Gabriel Martinelli showcased his brilliance, curling a sensational shot into the top corner to make it 3-1.

Despite Brentford's efforts, Arsenal’s defensive organization ensured the hosts couldn’t find a way back into the game.

AFC’s Climb Up the Table

This victory propels Arsenal F.C. into second place, leapfrogging Nottingham Forest, and keeping their title aspirations alive. The Gunners have now collected 14 points in Premier League London derbies this season, more than any other side. Meanwhile, Brentford remains in 12th, struggling with a four-game winless streak.
