Brentford vs Burnley: Live from Gtech Community Stadium: Who’s winning this match?

This season, Brentford hasn't performed as well as they did last year, with only one win out of their matches in all competitions, a 3-0 triumph against Fulham during the Premier League's second weekend. Currently, the Bees are on a winless streak, having not secured a victory in their last eight games. Their most recent match ended in a disappointing 2-1 loss to Manchester United, with the deciding goal coming in the final moments of the game.

This season has been challenging for Burnley, who have only managed one league win since their promotion, placing them in the relegation zone. However, they did secure a 2-1 victory against Luton Town at Kenilworth Road in their last away match. Unfortunately, they couldn't maintain the momentum and suffered a 4-1 loss to Chelsea just before the international break.

Now, let's look at the match:

First-half starts!!

The teams have taken their positions on the field, and we're just moments away from the start of the match!

  • In the 2nd minute of the game, opportunity strikes! Norgaard has secured an early free-kick, and Jensen acts fast, sending the ball into the box on the right for Maupay. He makes contact with it immediately, but unfortunately, his shot veers off to the right of the post.
  • In the 8th minute, Goal disallowed! Mbeumo sends a curling free-kick to the far post, and Collins manages to volley it across the goal. Maupay quickly makes a move and taps it in from close range, but the assistant referee raises the flag for offside. The video assistant referee (VAR) is now reviewing the play...
  • In the 10th minute, almost it's a goal! Burnley skillfully navigates through Brentford's tight midfield formation, with Tresor taking the opportunity to dash down the right flank. After cutting inside, he takes a shot from just outside the penalty box, but unfortunately, his low drive misses the near post.
  • In the 18th minute, it's a great save! Mbeumo, on the right side, delivers an excellent cross into the center, finding Onyeka, who has no defenders around him. Unfortunately, Onyeka's header lacks the necessary power, making it an easy catch for the goalkeeper, Trafford.
  • In the 23rd minute, it's an impressive block! Mbeumo's cross is partially cleared, but Janelt is quick to keep the play alive on the far side. The ball bounces around among the players before Norgaard manages to get a volley shot towards the goal. Luckily for the defending team, O'Shea is perfectly positioned to block the shot.
  • In the 24th minute, that was close! Burnley experiences a tense moment in their defensive end when the ball is passed back to goalkeeper Trafford. He fails to notice Wissa rapidly approaching. Wissa manages to slide in and block the pass, but fortunately for Trafford and Burnley, the ball goes just wide of the post.
  • In the 25th minute, it's a GOAL for Brentford! After regaining possession in the midfield, Maupay skillfully passes the ball to Mbeumo on the right side of the penalty box. Mbeumo then quickly sends it across the goal to the far post. The pass is perfectly weighted, allowing Wissa to tap the ball into the net easily. Brentford leads 1-0!
  • In the 28th minute, we can see some incredible saves and clearances! Burnley finds themselves in trouble again when Al Dakhil loses control of the ball to Wissa. Taking advantage of the situation, Wissa taps the ball to Maupay, who sends a low shot towards the goal. Trafford is only able to block the shot partially, but luckily, O'Shea is quick to rush back and clear the ball off the line, preventing a goal.
  • In the 30th minute also, it's a nice save! Brentford is dominating the game, with Mbeumo finding space on the right once again. With no defenders closing him down, Mbeumo decides to take the shot himself, aiming for the near post. However, Trafford is up to the task and manages to push the ball away, preventing a goal.
  • In the 34th minute, Brentford secures another corner, which Jensen expertly sends curving into the box. Ajer leaps above the rest at the near post to flick the ball on, but unfortunately, Collins isn't able to react quickly enough at the back post to make contact with it.
  • In the 41st minute, it's a fantastic save! Trafford doesn't manage to clear the ball far when he punches it away from Onyeka, but Mbeumo is right there on the edge of the box to keep the play alive.
  • Before the first half was finished, we saw some incredible play.
  • In the 43rd minute, what a save! Burnley fails to clear the ball from the box, giving Maupay the chance to skillfully fend off O'Shea, turn, and scoop a shot towards the goal. The ball is heading upwards, but Trafford takes no chances and dives to tip it over the crossbar, preventing a goal.

Extra time was added to the first half.

Another impressive save in the 46th minute! Burnley moves the ball quickly to the edge of the penalty area, where Amdouni finds himself without any markers. He takes his shot for the first time, skillfully curving it around the defender in front of him. However, goalkeeper Flekken is quick to react and makes a great save, pushing the ball wide of the goal.

Before the half-time is finished, Cullen tries twice to clip Wissa's heels, finally succeeding on his second attempt. Unhappy with the referee's decision to award a free-kick, Cullen protests and is subsequently shown a yellow card for dissent.

Second-half begins!!

As the second half gets underway, Burnley is making a substitution in an effort to turn the game around. Odobert is coming off, and Koleosho is coming on to replace him.

  • At the 52nd minute, an opportunity is missed! Pinnock loses control of the ball, giving Amdouni a golden chance as he finds himself with the ball at the edge of the box. Amdouni quickly spins and takes a shot at the goal, but unfortunately, the ball rises too high and doesn't challenge goalkeeper Flekken.
  • In the 61st minute, Thomas Frank, expressing his discontent over a missed foul on Mbeumo, caught the referee's attention. As a result, Frank has been shown a yellow card for dissent.
  • In the 62nd minute, it's again a goal for Brentford! Onyeka drives the team forward down the right and sends a square ball into the box. Ajer flicks it on to Maupay, who then sets it up perfectly for Mbeumo. Mbeumo gets the ball under control before expertly curling it past Trafford and into the top corner of the net. Brentford now leads 2-0!
  • In the 64th minute, we can see some great defensive play! Jensen makes a beautiful spin move to get past two Burnley defenders, then sends the ball into the box. Maupay pulls Trafford off his line, but the keeper manages to push the ball back to Jensen. Rushed by Al Dakhil's approach, Jensen takes his shot too quickly and ends up sending the ball over the bar.
  • In the 75th minute, what an opportunity missed! Burnley makes a quick break on the counter-attack, with Foster charging down the left flank. He manages to draw five Brentford players, including the goalkeeper, towards him, leaving Koleosho with an open goal. But, unfortunately, Koleosho misfires and scuffs the chance.
  • In the 78th minute, what a golden opportunity goes begging! Burnley launches a swift counter-attack, with Foster storming down the left side. He successfully pulls five Brentford players, goalkeeper included, in his direction, creating an open goal opportunity for Koleosho. Sadly, Koleosho doesn't capitalize on the chance and ends up mishitting the ball.
  • In the 87th minute, it's again one more goal for Brentford! Ghoddos finds the net with an absolutely stunning strike! Wissa and Norgaard work the ball beautifully down the left side, with Norgaard delivering a cross into the middle. Al Dakhil manages to head the ball away, but it lands at the feet of Ghoddos. Brentford extends their lead to 3-0!
  • In the 90th minute, after 8 minutes being added to the match, it's an opportunity again! Burnley faces another tense situation in defense as Norgaard intercepts Trafford's pass. He tries to pass it to Wissa, but Trafford recovers quickly and manages to block the pass.
  • In the 93rd minute, Ghoddos receives a late yellow card for his poorly timed tackle.
  • In the 95th minute, Brentford is trying to score another goal, sending a high pass to Ghoddos. However, he loses balance and slides on the slippery field as Brownhill clears the ball away.

And that's all for today! The match is over. Brentford returns to winning form with a comfortable 3-0 win over 10-man Burnley. Maupay's early goal was disallowed due to an offside in the build-up, but Wissa managed to put Brentford ahead with a close-range tap-in. Despite Trafford's efforts to keep Burnley in the game, Mbeumo's fantastic curling shot found the net just after the one-hour mark, securing Brentford's victory.
