They got their reward in the 30th minute when Vitinha put in a perfect long ball from his own half, and It was a softball that fell right into the path of Joao Felix who controlled it well to give Portugal the lead with a clinical finish past Dominik Livakovic.

Croatia almost equalized right after the goal, as Andrej Kramaric unleashed a thunderous shot that hit the post five minutes after the goal. The home side went into halftime down with the understanding that they needed a victory or at worst a draw to secure their place in the quarterfinals.

Second-Half Comeback

The hosts began the second half with much vigor, they pressed and threatened to score goals. In the 56th minute, Josko Gvardiol thought he had equalized with a great header, but he was flagged offside.

Still, Gvardiol had to wait for his chance to redeem himself and it came in the 67th minute, picking the ball from a lackadaisical Nelson Semedo, he faded in behind the Croatian defense to rifle home an equalizer.

Croatia came close to scoring a last-gasp winner when Ante Budimir rifled a shot against the bar but the point earned Croatia passage to the next stage.
