Barcelona triumphed 5-2 over Crvena Zvezda on Wednesday night in front of 20,990 spectators, demonstrating a rich supply of goals and continuing to play well in the Champions League under Hansi Flick. Superstars Raphinha, Jules Kounde, and Robert Lewandowski were instrumental for Barcelona and fans are delighted and optimistic about the team’s European prospects.
Barcelona was able to take an early lead when the defender Inigo Martinez headed into the net from a corner kick. The first half was an example of proper football from the visitors who came with a clear instruction to dominate the game. Barcelona’s defence was breached in the 27th minute though, when Silas beat the offside trap to level for Crvena Zvezda. The home side was briefly invigorated though, when Robert Lewandowski put the ball past the bar just before halftime to give Barcelona the lead going into the break at 2-1.
In the second half, both sides were relentless but it was Barcelona that pushed the tempo. Kounde, who was in superb form throughout the night, was at it again when he provided a brilliant cross that Lewandowski expertly headed home to make it his second goal of the match. The Polish striker put the final nail in the coffin, and the goal also added to the influence of Kounde in the game. Afterwards, it took Raphinha only 5 minutes to make it 4-1 with a wonderful shot from distance, which probably would be the best goal of the match.
To make things even more ridiculous, the substitute Fermin Lopez got in on the act by firing home Barcelona’s fifth goal from yet another Kounde assist. Lopez’s goal summed up a very entertaining performance by Barcelona and demonstrated that there is strength in depth within the attacking ranks of the team under Flick. Milson did make a stunning effort to reduce the score for Crvena Zvezda, but even that effort came too late because Barcelona had already stamped their authority on the game.
After this win, Barcelona has accumulated nine points in the Champions League table, Increasing their chance to progress to the next round. Barcelona fans are hopeful and enthusiastic about the team’s form under Flick and the team’s prospects in the Champions League this season. On the other hand, Crvena Zvezda is still at the bottom of the table with zero points after this loss.
