FC Barcelona 3-1 Espanyol: Barca Increase Margin with Comfortable Derby Triumph

Barcelona maintained their place at the top of La Liga by beating Espanyol 3-1 in the Catalan derby at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, opening up a nine-point lead over second place. Having maintained a six-match winning streak in all competitions, Barcelona fans enjoyed the lively display of their heroes as the team kept its fantastic run under the new manager.

In the match, Barcelona dominated much of the first part to the delight of the 48000 fans present at the stadium. Olmo put the team ahead after only 12 minutes from the start of the game, showing great technique to finish the buildup. Captain Raphinha made it 2-0 early on in the second half with a great finish and a great chip over the Espanyol goalkeeper to make the game more comfortable for Barcelona.

Espanyol got their first shot at the target right in the mid-half of the first half and scored, but VAR reversed the goal saying that the player was offside. Barcelona responded to the reprieve almost instantly with Olmo scoring his second of the night, making it 3-0 before halftime. Espanyol had a very unimpressive first half but they were much better in the second half and Javi Puado fired one home for the visitors. Espanyol had two more shots called back for offside and Barcelona’s Ansu Fati had one goal in the last minutes of the match ruled out by VAR.

This season, Barcelona has been gradually rising under Flick. The victory in the match marks the team’s fourth consecutive win in La Liga and the 11th in the last 12 games. Ever since the club has been fully functional with its domestic and European soccer, FC Barcelona Tickets have been selling like hotcakes. People are willing to attend live performances of the team, especially after such a display in the derby match.

This win kept Barcelona at the top of La Liga and with a nine-point lead as the season continues, and they are in a very strong position. The Catalan giants have two away matches before the break; they have a Champions League match against Red Star Belgrade and a league match again against Real Sociedad. However, for Espanyol, they remain in the same poor form they have been experiencing for the past recent matches with six successive losses in the last seven games. Next up they have a very important clash with Valencia and they will be determined to stay clear of another relegation struggle after only managing a promotion from the Segunda Division playoffs.
