Liverpool’s Late Heroics: Darwin Nunez Strikes Twice to Sink Brentford

FC Barcelona’s struggles in La Liga continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Getafe at the Estadio Coliseum. This result marked Barca’s fourth consecutive league game without a win, leaving them third in the standings, five points behind leaders Atletico Madrid. Rivals Real Madrid, a point behind, could potentially leapfrog to the top with a win against Las Palmas.
Looking to take advantage of Atletico Madrid’s earlier loss to Leganes, F.C. Barcelona started strong. They opened the scoring in just the ninth minute, with Jules Kounde latching onto an incisive Pedri pass to guide the ball past David Soria.
However, Getafe equalized before halftime. Mauro Arambarri found the back of the net from close range after an initial save by Barca goalkeeper Inaki Pena.
Barca pushed for a winner in the second half, but opportunities went begging. Lamine Yamal missed a clear chance, while Getafe’s Arambarri failed to capitalize on another opportunity to double his tally. A mistake from Kounde nearly cost Barca again, but Christantus Uche’s shot soared high and wide.
Barca’s appeals for a late penalty were dismissed when Kounde’s shirt was pulled inside the box, leaving the visitors unable to break the deadlock.
Barca’s manager, Hansi Flick, expressed frustration over his team’s inability to convert chances.
“We wanted to win, and we created opportunities, but we weren’t clinical enough,” Flick said. “It’s tough to play in Getafe; they defend well. We lacked passing accuracy in crucial moments. There’s still a long way to go in La Liga, and we’ll keep fighting.”
Flick acknowledged the emotional intensity of the match, noting, “This stadium brings a lot of emotion to every action and contact. It’s something I’m still adapting to.”
F.C. Barcelona’s winless streak at the Estadio Coliseum now extends to five visits in La Liga. With 39 points from their first 20 matches, Barca is enduring one of its least productive seasons since 2004-2005, only faring worse in the 2021-2022 campaign.
Adding to their woes, Barca has conceded in each of their last nine league matches, a defensive record reminiscent of their struggles under Ernesto Valverde in 2018.
