Harry Kane scores and Michael Olise impresses in Vincent Kompany’s First  Bayern Munich Victory in DFB-Pokal

Vincent Kompany started his spell at Bayern Munich on a bright note as the German champions won 4-0 against second-tier side Ulm in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. Harry Kane, captain of England’s team, came from the bench to score a final goal in the added time, while the newly-acquired Michael Olise scored an assist in his first competitive match.

The match was always a one-sided affair and Bayern made sure that they dominated from the very beginning. Thomas Müller scored two goals ten minutes before the halftime break to give Bayern a comfortable lead. Kingsley Coman made it 3-0 in the 79th minute of the match and then Kane capped a brilliant performance by heading in a cross from Müller in the last few minutes of the match.

Kane, who scored 44 goals in 45 matches for Bayern last season, also got on the scoresheet, so there were no questions about his fitness after a difficult summer with the English national team. Nevertheless, Bayern had a rather poor season, as the club finished in third place last season and was eliminated from the UEFA Champions League in the semi-finals by Real Madrid. As for the DFB-Pokal last season, Bayern Munich was eliminated in the second round by Saarbrücken.

This victory can be considered as the first success for Kompany who became the head of the team after Tuchel’s resignation. The former Burnley manager has been trusted with the mammoth challenge of reinforcing Bayern’s dominance in the Bundesliga. The club was also active in the transfer window and made the signing of midfielder João Palhinha from Fulham and Michael Olise from Crystal Palace. Olise introduced himself in the first half as he set up Coman for the goal and seemed to have the capacity to be an important figure in Kompany’s formation.

After the match, Kompany said that he was satisfied with the team’s performance and also noted that they had done a good job in terms of the discipline of the defensive line. “The clean sheet was important. ” Defensively, when we lost the ball, that was the best part of our game – how we recovered the ball. It was good to see the team remain disciplined and get the result. Mentally, we’re ready to challenge for the title again,” he said with a lot of confidence.

Bayern Munich is set for their first Bundesliga match on August 25, away to Wolfsburg and fans expect their team to reclaim its position at the summit of German football.
