Jurgen Klopp Criticized by Borussia Dortmund Fans for Taking Red Bull Role

Former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp has been criticized by Borussia Dortmund fans after revealing his new position as Red Bull Global Head of Soccer. Klopp, who left Anfield in the Summer after eight and half glorious years, had initially mentioned that he would take a year off from football. However, his decision to switch to the Red Bull football division has angered the Dortmund fans.

Among the clubs that fall under Klopp’s new remit is RB Leipzig, a Bundesliga competitor of Dortmund. The ownership model of Leipzig which has been founded and is affiliated to Red Bull has been an all-time concern in Germany’s football. Leipzig, which is owned by investment firm Red Bull, has faced condemnation from football fans, especially the traditional Borussia Dortmund fans criticising the club for not respecting the 50+1 rule which seeks to ensure that clubs are majority owned by the fans.

In his new position, Klopp will manage the Red Bull clubs around the world, including Red Bull Salzburg FC, an Austrian football club, and New York Red Bulls, a club that plays in Major League Soccer. His responsibilities are advising about coaching strategy, player transfers, and general philosophy concerning players. Klopp was full of enthusiasm when talking about the new position, calling it a special project that will enable him to shape more than one team in various leagues and countries.

However, critics have scorn Klopp for this move, especially fans of Borussia Dortmund, who are disappointed by his decision to join a club like Leipzig. This is why their anger Is rooted in the idea that Klopp has betrayed the German football mentality he was once a part of while at Dortmund.
