Manchester United Leadership Reaffirms Support for Erik ten Hag Amid Rough Start

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has been given the “full backing” of the club’s senior officials after a difficult start to the Premier League season. Ten Hag’s position was under threat after he took the team to the eighth position in the 2023/24 season as well as the team had a poor start this season, losing two of their first three games. But Chief Executive Officer Omar Berrada and Sporting Director Dan Ashworth have come out in the open to support the Dutchman to turn the tide.

United’s last Premier League match was a 3-0 loss at Old Trafford against Liverpool, which made it two consecutive league losses for the team which has only managed to get three points from the first three games. They have only registered one victory in the whole of the season, and this was a 1-0 win over Fulham on the first day of the season. The Premier League is now on a short break due to the international games, and Manchester United will have to get back to training and prepare for the next game against Southampton on September 14.

However, both Berrada and Ashworth have endorsed Ten Hag even after the team had a rather slow beginning. Before the match against Liverpool on Sunday, Berrada said, “Do we still believe in Erik? Of course. We think Erik is the right man for the job and we are with him 100 percent.”

Neither Berrada nor Ashworth were in the club’s leadership position when Sir Jim Ratcliffe was considering possible successors for Ten Hag during the last summer. However, the search ended with the conclusion to extend Ten Hag’s contract to 2026. “As for the contract, that was decided before we came in, but we are satisfied with it,” Berrada said. “Erik has our support, and we have been in constant communication with him during the past summer transfer window to get the best outcome. ”

Ashworth, who signed for United from Newcastle United in the summer also echoed his sentiments saying, ‘I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Erik in the last eight weeks. My job is to assist him in any way I can whether it’s in recruitment, medical, psychological or even training ground arrangements. I aim to try and take as much burden off his shoulders as I can so that he can concentrate on the training pitch and the tactics for the matches.”

Berrada still believes that with Ten Hag at the helm, United will be able to regain the Premier League title which the club has been struggling to win since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013. “We are beginning to assemble the right team, and I am optimistic that we shall succeed in achieving our goals.

We do not want to have just one Premier League title; we want to create a team that will be able to challenge for the Champions League, the Premier League and domestic cups,” he said.
