Mikel Arteta Signs Three-Year Contract Extension with Arsenal: 'I Want to Do Much More'

Mikel Arteta has put pen to paper and agreed to a new deal that will see him remain with Arsenal until 2027. The Spaniard’s previous contract was to end at the end of the current season, but the Gunners have not wasted time in ensuring the services of the manager for another three years. Arteta, who has been instrumental to the transformation of the team, wants more success after the team finished second in the last two seasons. The next match of Arsenal is a North London derby against Tottenham on Sunday.

After signing his extension, Arteta said he was grateful and wanted more for the club. “I am very happy, very happy, and I am looking forward to what is coming next for me,” he said to the club’s official website and added that he is proud to be where he is and with the people he meets at the club. "I consider myself very blessed to work with good people every day and the drive we have here. It makes me feel very inspired, it makes me feel challenged, it makes me feel supported and I want to do much more than what we have done together. "

Arteta also attributed the fans of the club for changing the morale around the team. “With the players and all the people at the club we are waiting for the coming years, with the fans who emotionally changed the club and the team,” he continued.

Arteta, who used to be a midfielder for Arsenal, became the manager of the team in December 2019 after being an assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. In his first season, he won the FA Cup for Arsenal. Under him, Arsenal has become finished as second for the title in the last two seasons, having occupied the second position in the Premier League. Arsenal have started the season well with two victories and one draw before the match-up against Tottenham.

However, Arteta has a tough time due to injuries of some of the most crucial players. Captain Martin Odegaard is likely to miss the clash due to an injury that he suffered during the international break; Mikel Merino and Declan Rice are also unavailable due to injury and suspension respectively.
