The Blues maintained the winning streak in the UEFA Conference League by thrashing Panathinaikos 4-1 in Athens. Joao Felix scored the first goal before the half-time break while Mykhailo Mudryk scored the second one just after the break. Felix made it 3-0 before Christopher Nkunku scored a penalty. The hosts tried to reply and score a consolation goal in the last minutes of the match through Facundo Pellistri, but Chelsea dominated the match and got the second win in their European series.
Mudryk crossed the ball into the box and delivered it to Felix, who scored a simple finish to make the scoreline 1-0. Just before the break, Mudryk doubled the advantage: He combined well with Pedro Neto who provided an excellent cross for the Ukrainian at the back post. Shortly after, Mudryk again provided the assist for Felix to score from the edge of the box with a touch of luck as the ball went past the goalkeeper of Panathinaikos.
Felix remained in the middle of all the drama, getting a penalty after his superb flick was handled by Panathinaikos defender Daniel Mancini. Among fans and diversions, Christopher Nkunku stood strong to take the penalty, which went into the bottom left corner and left Chelsea in a comfortable position.
Panathinaikos had begun the match with a combination of the first-team and second-team players, while in the second half, Diego Alonso put in more of his main players. One of these substitutes was Georgios Vagiannidis who provided Pellistri with a perfect ball after a nice overlap down the right wing and the Colombian simply tapped in the ball home. Panathinaikos intensified the pressure down the right flank in stoppage time and almost got a second goal in injury time but Axel Disasi made a goal-line clearance to stop the ball.
Chelsea had a slightly less impressive match as Enzo Maresca decided to use some of the substitutes and give the young players like Tyrique George, who is just 18 years old, some playing time. With a good run now established in Europe, the Blues will seek to carry this form to their next Premier League match-up against Newcastle and the Conference League game in Stamford Bridge against Noah.
