PSG Considers Former Racecourse Site for New Stadium

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is exploring the possibility of constructing a new stadium on the grounds of the former Évry racecourse. This expansive site, once considered for an 82,000-seat rugby stadium in 2016, is now a strong contender to host PSG’s future home, providing ample space for a state-of-the-art venue to match the club’s global ambitions.

A Promising Location

According to Le Parisien, PSG officials have recently inspected the former Ris-Orangis racecourse, which has been inactive since 1996. Spanning over 100 hectares, the site meets critical requirements for a modern stadium. This location could accommodate not only the stadium but also a dedicated PSG village featuring hotels, restaurants, and offices, creating an all-encompassing fan experience.

Accessibility and Challenges

The racecourse’s proximity to major highways such as the A6, N104, and N7, as well as Orly Airport and the Massy train station, makes it easily accessible. However, its distance from central Paris raises concerns. At 30 kilometers from Parc des Princes and 50 kilometers from PSG’s training facility in Poissy, the site is farther from the city than anticipated.

PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi is reportedly weighing the practicality of attracting over 60,000 fans to a venue located more than 30 kilometers from the city center. While the site offers numerous advantages, logistical challenges might impact its feasibility for hosting regular matches.

PSG’s Vision for Growth

The potential new stadium reflects Paris Saint-Germain’s long-term goals to grow as a global football powerhouse. The club aims to create a modern infrastructure capable of supporting its ambitions both on and off the pitch, delivering unforgettable experiences for fans.
