Real Madrid secured a 2-0 victory over Girona at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, in a match between a side that is fighting for the league title, and a side that performed worse than last season.
In the 41st minute Luka Modric, scored a spectacular volley from beyond the penalty area, and then Vinicius Junior sealed the match for Real Madrid with his 81st-minute goal.
This was an important win for Madrid, as they continue chasing Barcelona in the title race, as the latter are only top by goal difference.
The first half started with Real Madrid looking to open the scoring, and they put pressure on the Girona defence from the first minute. Despite Real Madrid creating chances, they couldn’t find the final touch and wasted many chances.
However, Los Blancos were finally able to break the deadlock, and in an amazing fashion, as Modric hit a great shot from outside the box after the ball got to him outside the area, scoring a great volley into the top corner.
Real Madrid went into the break with a careful 1-0 lead that they were hoping to build on in the second half.
Real Madrid started this half like the previous one, trying to score from the first minute of the game to be more relaxed, as like it’s known in the football world, 1-0 leads are the most dangerous.
After a lot of wasted chances, Real Madrid were able to add the second, as Vinicius Junior added the second goal for Madrid to seal the match 2-0 for the hosts.
Real Madrid managed to get an important win, as this win makes them level on points with Barcelona (only behind on goal difference), and one point above Atletico Madrid.
