Real Madrid 3-1 Stuttgart: Kylian Mbappe Scores on Champions League Debut as Holders Secure Late Victory

Real Madrid started their UEFA Champions League campaign with a tough 3-1 win against Stuttgart of the Bundesliga at the Santiago Bernabeu. Kylian Mbappe had the opportunity to shine on his first game in the champions league representing Los Blancos scoring the first goal in what proved to be a closely contested match with a late win for Los Blancos under the tactical guidance of Carlo Ancelotti.

The match started with an upset tinge for the reigning European champions as Stuttgart was able to create early chances and forced Real Madrid to be on the back foot. Thibaut Courtois was forced to make some outstanding saves to stop some efforts by Jamie Leweling and Enzo Millot who nearly gave their team a shock lead in the first 10 minutes.

The Real Madrid team was off for most of the first half and the home fans became anxious as the Stuttgart team maintained a dangerous position. After a challenge that looked very much like a foul on Antonio Rudiger, Real Madrid was awarded a penalty which, however, was overturned by VAR to the delight of the German side.

However, it was Madrid that started the scoring early in the second half. Aurelien Tchouameni put Rodrygo through to the right and the Brazilian found Mbappe who made no mistake about the goal. It was the first Champions League goal for the Frenchman with Real Madrid, which signaled what appeared to be a routine win.

Stuttgart, however, had other ideas. The visitors equalized in the 68th minute when Deniz Undav rose above the Madrid defense to head in a well-timed cross, leaving Courtois with no chance. It was a good goal for t

For most of the match, it appeared as if Stuttgart would get a precious away draw in the Spanish capital, but Real Madrid had other plans in mind. With about seven minutes to the end of the match, ex-Stuttgart man Antonio Rudiger rose high to head a Luka Modric corner to make it 2-1 for Madrid. The goal blew Stuttgart’s chances and the home fans sighed in relief.

In the dying embers of the match, young Brazilian forward Endrick came from the bench to put the game to bed with a stunning shot that hit the back of the net. This could be considered as a worthy conclusion to the match that was full of dramatic moments but eventually Madrid’s class triumphed over Stuttgart’s efforts.

Real Madrid was sometimes somewhat uncoordinated, especially in their back line, but they fought hard like the champions of Europe are known to do. It was a victory at the beginning of the campaign for Carlo Ancelotti, but there is no doubt that Madrid will have to improve their defense organization during the tournament.
