A thrilling UEFA Champions League match saw Real Madrid stage an incredible comeback to dismiss Borussia Dortmund 5-2. The first two goals from Donyell Malen and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens put Dortmund in a shock lead of 2-0 against the defending champions, Real Madrid. However, Real Madrid turned on the style in the second half with Vinicius Junior, scoring a hat-trick to turn the table on Borussia Dortmund at Santiago Bernabeu.
The match was a replica of the last season’s Champions League final and Real Madrid once again came back from the dead. Dortmund scored twice in the first half to silence the home fans by exploiting errors made by the reigning champions. Malen scored in the opening period, then Bynoe-Gittens’ shot found its way into the net, and fans of Santiago Bernabéu were shocked.
However, what could be said of Real Madrid after the break? They surely came back in style. Antonio Rudiger began the fight back with a goal scored from a close range in the period immediately after the hour mark. Vinicius Junior then quickly took advantage of the lapse and equalized for Real Madrid a few minutes after the goal. The pace was now entirely with Madrid, and Lucas Vazquez sealed the comeback nine minutes from time with a finish from the edge of the box.
Vinicius wasn’t finished, though, and showed why he is the favorite to win the Ballon d’Or. The Brazilian forward put the final nail with two goals in the last few minutes of the game to complete a magnificent hat-trick and more importantly, a perfect display of a Real Madrid attacking force. The victory not only consolidated the Real as a favorite to win the Champions League but also demonstrated their capacity to perform at their best just when it is important.
