Real Madrid Invests in Soundproofing Santiago Bernabéu

Real Madrid has made serious efforts to improve the acoustic characteristics of the Santiago Bernabéu so that the stadium can host concerts, an activity that might infringe upon the neighbors’ sleep. Acoustic design and engineering company, Arup, a British firm, was to conduct sound surveys in a new project aimed at soundproofing the stadium.

It comes after many residents living in the area complained to the Madrid police regarding loud noise levels during past events. To manage such issues, Real Madrid has decided to suspend all the concerts planned to date until spring 2025. This approach was backed by the mayor of Madrid José Luis Martínez-Almeida and was done in cooperation with local authorities as a responsible.

Real Madrid is working with Arup, an international company that has previously consulted on famous stadium construction sites including Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium and KASC – King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah. Arup will simulate the acoustic environment under different weather conditions by employing sophisticated simulation tools to manage noise. This partnership extends from Real Madrid’s previous relationship with Arup that worked on the redevelopment of this stadium, including the metal structure façade, preferred seating configurations, and state-of-the-art LED lighting.

Maintaining Compliance with OPCAT Regulations

Among Real Madrid’s key objectives to achieve with the new Santiago Bernabéu is the Noise and Thermal Pollution Ordinance (OPCAT) to address Madrid’s environmental and acoustic norms. Through such a decision, the club pays lips service to the development of society as well as the conservation of the environment.

The soundproofing plan Is still under implementation, with the expected completion by June 2025. Consequently, shows featuring Aitana, among others, which were due to happen at the end of December, have to be rescheduled because of the need to upgrade the venue. Of these very significant changes, other performances such as those by Lola Índigo and Dellafuente are also postponed to next summer.
