Real Sociedad 0-2 Real Madrid: Mbappe and Vinicius Penalties Secure Win for Los Blancos

Real Madrid continued with their good start to the season by beating Real Sociedad 2-0 in the La Liga encounter on Saturday night with Mbappe and Vinicius scoring from the spot. The match ended in a 2-0 win but the reigning La Liga champions were challenged for the majority of the match by the Real Sociedad team and their home fans.

Carlo Ancelotti's side struggled to impose themselves in the first half and the Sociedad was creating some clear-cut opportunities. Croatian midfielder Luka Sucic was particularly unlucky to hit the post twice while Sheraldo Becker also had a post to show he was part of a team that looked more like the superior side. Madrid on their part did not create any clear goal-scoring opportunities for themselves, Sociedad’s defense was just too strong.

As was expected, Real Madrid came back to the pitch with a different attitude in their second half. Their efforts were rewarded in the 58th minute when Sergio Gomez committed a handball offense as he sought to make a block on a shot by Arda Guler. Vinicius Junior then got to the spot composedly took the penalty and scored for Madrid to make it 1-0.

Real Madrid got their second goal in the second half after Mbappe scored another penalty in the 77th minute. That was after Vinicius dribbled past two defenders and then fell inside the box. Kylian Mbappe,  who was relatively inactive in the match, coolly placed the ball past Remiro to extend Real Madrid's lead from the penalty spot.

Although these two penalties ensured them the victory, the 2-0 scoreline was a little bit misleading especially because Real Sociedad kept on attacking and creating other chances. The win helped Real Madrid to climb up the La Liga table to second place, behind Barcelona with only one point difference but Barcelona has one more game to be played.

Madrid’s focus is now on their UEFA Champions League which begins on Tuesday against Stuttgart.
