Thomas Tuchel Hired as The New Manager of the England Men’s Football Team

Thomas Tuchel has been appointed the new head coach of the England men’s national football team, becoming the difficult one of the most difficult jobs In world football. The English FA confirmed his appointment on Wednesday after Gareth Southgate resigned following England’s loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.

This position is Tuchel’s first foray into international football management. However,  the German tactician boasts of an impressive resume in club football. Tuchel had managed Mainz 05, Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and most recently Bayern Munich where he won another Bundesliga title before leaving at the end of the previous season. His highest feat has been in Chelsea, where he was able to lead the team to an unlikely UEFA Champions League triumph.

In his first press conference as England manager, Tuchel reflected on the magnitude of the position: "I couldn’t be more honored to be able to take charge of such a storied and skilled squad. As much as I expect it to be a challenge, the pressure is something I welcome as well. The transition from club football to international football is a new concept for me, but it gives me lots of enthusiasm. My target is to challenge this group and hopefully bring another star wearing the shirt to the team".

Tuchel will manage a squad with the likes of Jude Bellingham, Harry Kane, and upcoming talent, Cole Palmer. Whilst Southgate was close to clinching a trophy, Tuchel will have to perform the herculean task of ending the trophy-barren run of England in World Cup 2026 which will played in the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico very much in his sight.
