Tottenham Hotspur bolstered their aspirations of clinching a top-four finish in the Premier League with a hard-fought victory over Nottingham Forest in a thrilling encounter at their North London home ground. Despite facing some turbulence, Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs managed to secure a crucial win, courtesy of quickfire goals in the second half from Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro, ultimately clinching the three points. Chris Wood had momentarily threatened an upset by leveling the scoreline for Forest in the first half.
Tottenham surged ahead of Aston Villa and into fourth place following their 3-1 triumph over Nottingham Forest in a captivating match.
Postecoglou’s side encountered some shaky moments towards the end of the opening half, allowing Forest an opportunity to take the lead. However, they swiftly regained control after the break and justified their victory. While the home side showcased their trademark fluid passing and movement early on, Forest came close to scoring when their Brazilian defender Murillo unleashed a shot from an astonishing distance of 80 yards, narrowly missing the target. Shortly after, Murillo inadvertently found the back of his own net, deflecting a dangerous cross from Timo Werner past Forest's goalkeeper Matz Sels. Chris Wood's precise finish restored parity against the run of play, leaving Spurs momentarily stunned as they were outplayed for the remainder of the first half. Wood squandered a golden opportunity to grab a second goal, striking the post from close range.
Postecoglou made crucial midfield changes at halftime, introducing Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, which subsequently swung the momentum in Spurs' favor. The goals, however, came from the defenders as Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro netted two goals within seven minutes, effectively putting the game beyond Forest's reach.
The victory propels Spurs ahead of Villa on goal difference, with a game in hand. Meanwhile, Forest remains in 17th place, level on points with Luton on goal difference, pending any potential point deductions for Everton.
