AC Milan 0-2 Napoli: Conte’s Napoli Triumphs at San Siro to Extend their Lead at the a Top of Serie A

Napoli won the top-of-league clash at San Siro 2-0, extending their Serie A lead to seven points over second-place AC Milan. Napoli won with a well-disciplined, well-organized, and well-defended team that was backed up by Conte’s counterattacking strategy in front of a 74 00strong home crowd. No sooner did the first whistle blow, than Romelu Lukaku got on the score sheet; Khvicha Kvaratskhelia then made sure of the victory with a fine goal before the break, leaving Milan shocked at their backyard.

AC Milan dominated the majority of the match with high pressing. Milan’s midfield was efficient in switching the ball to the forwards, and performing frequent methods of maintaining the ball, and was able to keep play mostly in Napoli’s half. However, Napoli has one of the most solid backlines in the league and soaked up the pressure and struck Milan on the counter. Lukaku’s opener was a prime example, as he profited from a slight mistake by Strahinja Pavlovic and scored a fine finish to make it 1-0 Napoli.

Milan had their chances, and they came close to equalizing in the first half when  Morata headed a beautiful cross from Samuel Chukwueze just after the break, but the goal was ruled out. After this incident, Napoli increased their grip on the match. The goal scored by Kvaratskhelia was a gem of individual quality, coming as he always does from the left flank to bend a shot into the net that condemned Milan to defeat. Moreover, now high pressure is on AC Milan’s manager Paulo Fonseca because the team fluctuation puts the team in the 8th position.

The Napoli fans are thrilled with this performance and consider their team a title contender under Conte. The win not only extends Napoli’s lead but also has their fans flocking to discuss the ceiling of this team. On the other hand,  AC Milan fans left the stadium frustrated as their favorite team suffered another loss, and are hoping that their team form will become better in the upcoming matches.
