France Beat Italy 3-1 to Top UEFA Nations League Group A2

France Beat Italy 3-1 to Top UEFA Nations League Group A2

France put up a great show to beat Italy 3-1 at the San Siro stadium to emerge as the UEFA Nations League Group A2 winner. This match was more about group superiority, given that both teams had already qualified for the quarter-finals. Italy needed to win to keep Les Bleus away, but they were dominated throughout by the French side, with Rabiot and Digne leading the way.

The game began with action as France took the lead within three minutes with Rabiot scoring a goal from Digne’s corner. France doubled their advantage in the 33rd minute when Digne’s free-kick from the right flank hit the bar and bounced off the back of Italy goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and into the net.

Italy came back strongly and got a goal back to make it 2-1 in the 35th minute. San Siro came back to life when Federico Dimarco crossed the ball and Andrea Cambiaso put it into the back of the net with a header from the far post.

However, France got their two-goal advantage back in the second half. Digne and Rabiot linked up again in the 62nd minute with the latter scoring from another good corner kick to make it 3-1.

The French Endurance Triumphs

Italy increased the pressure to try and salvage a draw with Andrea Cambiaso having a shot go wide and later Moise Kean forcing a fantastic last-second save by Mike Maignan. Nonetheless, France’s defense stood their ground and they well and truly deserved the win.

Adrien Rabiot was probably the most outstanding player for the French team and scored two decisive goals. Lucas Digne also had a good game, creating two goals and making Italian defenders uncomfortable with corners.
